William Wiggins

Caney, Kansas

William L. (Bill) Wiggins died Monday, July 11, 2022, at his home in Caney at the age of 88.  He has been cremated under the direction of Potts Chapel.  No services are scheduled at this time.   A private family service will be observed at a later date.

He was born November 3, 1933, in Cedar Vale, KS to William T. and Mae (Bohannon) Wiggins.  He grew up mostly in Sedan, KS and graduated from high school there in 1952.  He served in the U. S. Army following graduation and was honorably discharged in 1958.

On November 7, 1959, he married Sharon L. Todd at the First Christian Church in Caney.  They made their home in Caney all of their married life and would have celebrated 63 years of marriage in November.  Their children were Steven L. and Kristi L.  Steven died in an accident in 1976 at the age of 15.

He was a member of the Wayside Christian Church in Wayside, KS where he served as a deacon and a trustee.  For nearly 20 years, he and Sharon were involved in square dancing with area clubs.  He enjoyed woodworking and flower gardening.  In his younger years, he liked to quail hunt and fish.  Kristi and the granddaughters and greats were his pride and joy.

He retired in 1994 after 28 years with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville.  For several years before that, he worked as a meat-cutter for Max and Laverne Dick in their Caney grocery store.  He enjoyed a long retirement before the long journey through dementia began.

Survivors include his wife and daughter Kristi L. Jacobs (Carl) of Caney.  He is also survived by 3 granddaughters:  Tarrah (Jay) Foulk, Hailey Hall and Rainey Hall.

Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren....Maurissa, Henry, Emmett, Jillian and Ellie Foulk.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven, a sister and 2 brothers.
