Ruth Nelson

Ruth Elizabeth Nelson, age 101 of Caney, Kansas passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Guest Home Estates.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Pastor Jonathan Schultz in Caney, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018 with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney.

The family has suggested memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Caney, Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Ruth was born January 8, 1917 in North Dakota to Thomas and Marie (Olson) Hansen. She born in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended schools in Minnesota. She worked on a farm in Minnesota. On March 20, 1937 Ruth married Alvie Charles Nelson in Hector, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Hector doing farming before moving to several states with Alvie being in the construction business. The couple moved to Caney in 1978. Alvie preceded her in death.

Ruth was a homemaker and loved to watch daytime court TV, and Gunsmoke, and then have a large chunk of time spent reading her devotionals and going through a prayer list of every person known to her. She loved to go to garage/yard sales to look for jewelry and then scavenge up and down the aisles at the grocery store. She always had her hair and nails done just right, complimented by rings and earrings to boot. Ruth loved crossword puzzles, always had pop and candy for grandkids and yell lovingly at her Tracy bird when he screeched.

Survivors include five sons Ted Nelson of Wisconsin, Tim and wife Jan Nelson of Australia, Tom and wife Carolyn Nelson of Caney, Terry and wife Ann Nelson of Bartlesville, and Tony and wife Rhonda Nelson of Bartlesville. She was preceded in death by one daughter Julie Marie Nelson and one daughter in law Karen Nelson. Grandchildren Sherry (Eddie Carswell, Cara Alston, Elizabeth (Mark) Anderson, Tim (Natasha) Nelson Jr., Tammy Nelson, Michele (Bob) Robinson, Tom (Anissa) Nelson Jr., Kristi (Craig) Rucker, Kim (Kevin) McIntosh, Stephen Nelson, Julie (Rob) McCune, and Jennifer Nelson; great grandchildren Natalie Longrie, Lauren Longrie Robinson, Zack Robinson, Ashley Webster, Logan Bevis, Liam & Ryan Anderson, Josh (Joyce) Carswell, Ethan, Felicity, and Decan Nelson, Phillip & Desiree Nelson, Tanner & Kolbi McIntosh, Kendall (Wyatt) Turney, Addie, Thatcher and Jasper Lackey, Quinn & Will McCune.
