Mildred Melander

Mildred "Millie" Marie Melander, age 91, of Tyro, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Inurnment in follow in the Harrisonville Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel. The family has suggested memorials to the Coffeyville Friends of Animals and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

Mildred "Millie" Marie Melander was born April 25, 1926 in near Oswego, Kansas to Earl and Grace (Stoker) Barrager. She grew up in Oswego, Kansas and attended school at Labette Count Millie worked at Wichita Beachcraft as a rivitor. On December 14, 1946 Millie married Kenneth "KB" Bain Melander in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Independence and Wayside before moving to the family farm in rural Tyro, Kansas. Kenneth preceded her in death on December 26, 2011. Millie worked as a secretary for M&M Contracting for many years.

Millie was a member of the Tyro Christian Church and former member of the Coffeyville Saddle Club. She loved watching old movies and feeding cats and all animals.

Survivors include two sons Chris Melander, Steve Melander and wife Sherri both of Tyro, Kansas; one brother Everett Barrager of Golden City, Missouri, one sister Jeanie Smith of St. Joseph, Missouri; eight grandchildren Amy, Amanda, Airika, Chase, Mistey, Cody, Casey and Erin; 14 great grandchildren Morgan, Madison, Sadie, Michael, Mitchell, Jai, Aubrey, Kate, Gage, Caroline, Houston, Hagan and Maddy.
