John Rodriguez Jr.

March 10, 1964 — December 31, 2016

John Joseph Rodriguez Jr., age 52 of Niotaze, Kansas formerly of Caney, Kansas died Saturday, December 31, 2016 while visiting a friend at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Caney Valley High School Gymnasium under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Inurnment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.

John requested donations and memorials in lieu of flowers to the Caney Recreation Center to be used as scholarships for children and families in need so that these children have the opportunity to participate in the gifts of organized sports. Contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

John Joseph Rodriguez Jr., was born March 10, 1964 to John Joseph Sr. and Marilyn Iva (Marson) Rodriguez. John grew up in Coffeyville, Kansas. He attended Holy Name Catholic School and graduated from Field Kinley High School in 1982. John then graduated from Coffeyville Community College while playing Football and Baseball. He also received his Electrical Certification from Tri County Vo-Tech.

As a youth, John was active in several sports coached by his late father John Sr. including the Boys Club Boxing Team and Kiwanis baseball. He also wrestled for the Coffeyville Wrestling Club.

On June 10, 1989 John married Nita Carol Long in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple made their home in Coffeyville before moving to Havana and then raised their family in Caney for the next 19 years. John worked for Aptus Environmental Services until 1989, then managed AY McDonald Plumbing Supply in Coffeyville, Kansas. In 1996, John opened J&N Electric in Caney, Ks where he worked hard to build a reputation for affordable quality work in a local business. He was often heard saying he had his business to pay for his career--- coaching and mentoring kids!

John was avid supporter of the Youth in Caney, Kansas. He was coach of the Caney Wrestling Club from 1997 to 2014 serving as head coach for a number of those years. He served on the Caney Recreation Commission for several years as well as voluntarily taking care of the fields and youth sports programs. He coached youth football for six years, Rec and traveling softball from 1995 to 2013, Rec and Competitive baseball in Caney from 1999 to 2008 as well as soccer, basketball and volleyball. Before moving to Caney, he also coached the youth baseball teams in Coffeyville. John encouraged players and kept stats on the sidelines for Caney Valley High School Football team from 2008 to 2016. He was former captain of the Caney Police Reserves and was a translator for the Caney PD. John was a member of the Knight of Columbus and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include the love of his life-- his grandbaby girl Tatum Housel, his wife Nita of the home; one son John Joseph Rodriguez III of Niotaze; three daughters Gabrielle Rodriguez and spouse LJ Housel, of Caney, Bianca Rodriguez currently studying in Pittsburg and Selena Rodriguez presently of Miami, Oklahoma; mother Marilyn Rodriguez of Atlanta, GA; one brother Faron Rodriguez of Coffeyville; one sister Yolanda Nolen of Atlanta, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Dad, John Rodriguez Sr.
