John Richey

Caney

Lifelong Caney resident, John Aaron Richey, 94, passed away at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021.

John was welcomed into this world on August 25th, 1927, the youngest of 10 children to William and Susan Ann (Dellinger) Richey in Caney, Kansas. John attended the Caney schools and later earned his GED in 1954. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 when he was honorably discharged. He married Twyla L. Lagal on January 1, 1948. The two were happily married for 56 years until her passing on July 15, 2004. He then married Lila Leonard on August 9, 2014. Through the years, John worked various jobs before working as a mechanic at Doenges Ford in Bartlesville, OK. In 1958 he went to work at Phillips Petroleum and retired in 1985. In retirement, he worked at various jobs for several more years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Susan Ann Richey, wife Twyla Richey, brothers and sisters, Mary Hampton, Earl Richey, Paul Richey, Charley Richey, Estella Myers, Hyldreth Hess, Imajean White, Joseph Richey, Henry Richey, and Bobbie Richey.

John’s memory will live on with his children, Mariam Staton of Caney, KS, John Richey Jr. (Tanya) of Cortez, CO, Bill Richey (Stacie) of Caney, KS, Teresa McClure of Caney, KS, Karon Frye (Steve) of Niotaze, KS, 16 grandchildren, Veronica Hernandez, John Staton, Heather Billingsley, Catherine Lockwood, Aaron Richey, Brandon Richey, Casey Richey, Anthony Richey, Taressa Richey, Katelyn Brown, Bill McClure, Shyra Songer, John McClure, Jeremy Frye, Sara Freisberg, Eric Frye, 44 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Niotaze, KS on Monday, December 13th at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made in John’s name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
