Joanne Jackson, 79, Caney, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Guest Home Estates in Caney.

Joanne Frances Hill was born April 23, 1937, at Claflin, Kansas, the third of eight children to Owen S. Hill and Frances (Reneker) Hill. She grew up in Eldorado, KS, attending schools there and graduating from Eldorado High School.

On December 1, 1956, in Eldorado, she was united in marriage to George Edward ‘Ed' Jackson. To this union was born four children - George Jr., Terry, Karen, and David. Joanne and Ed lived in Hutchinson, Burns, and Eldorado, Kansas, before moving to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where Ed became employed by Phillips Petroleum. They soon realized the ‘city' life was not for them and moved to Caney where they raised their children.

Joanne retired as the Food Service Director from the Caney School District after 29+plus years. Joanne was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 46 years. She was active in the Alter Society and Choir. She enjoyed cooking and baking, walking and exercising, watching old movies, gardening and mowing lawns. For many years, Joanne and Ed ‘adopted' numerous city flower beds, receiving multiple recognitions and awards for their efforts and love of flowers.

Joanne will be best remembered for her kindness, caring heart, and positive outlook on life. Joanne loved to laugh.

Survivors blessed by her memory are her children, George Jr., Terry, and David; sister Delores Calvert of Burlington, KS, brothers Richard Hill of Dallas, TX, Verne Hill of Tulsa, OK, and Butch Hill, Phoenix, AZ. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, husband George ‘Ed' in 2001, and daughter Karen in 1985.

Graveside celebration of life services will be conducted Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney, with Father Sixtus Myint officiating. The family has suggested donations to Alzheimer's Association or the National Parkinson Foundation designated in memory of Joanne and Ed Jackson. Contributions can be left with the funeral home.
