Ivan Lewis Pfalser, 84 of Caney, Kansas passed from this life on Friday, July 25th, 2014 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Ivan was born on July 11, 1930 in Anthony, Kansas to Johnnie and Gladys Murry Pfalser as their only child. He spent his early years on a farm near Wakita, Oklahoma where he attended the local oneroom school through 8th grade. From there the family moved to a large wheat farm near Freeport, Kansas where he attended Anthony High School graduating in 1948.
Ivan graduated from University of Kansas in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Engineering. That same year he married Viola Florence Hager of Anthony, Kansas.
After four years of serving with the Pershing Rifle Squad in ROTC, Ivan served with the US Army during the Korean War. He then went on to work as a civil engineer for Phillips Petroleum Company, Bartlesville, Oklahoma and retiring after 36 years.
During his life Ivan enjoyed many hobbies and interests including art and photography as well as collecting stamps, coins, barbed wire, bricks, antique farm utensils and many, many more uniquities.
He shared these interests through many clubs and organizations such as the Oklahoma Philatelic Society, Caney Historical Society, Caney Valley Art Alliance, Coffeyville Stamp Club, OK Mozart, Caney Valley Antique Power Association, Black Dog and Chief Opothle Yahola Trails, Coffeyville Nightwriters, Montgomery County Genealogical Society, Caney United Methodist Church, a long time Boy Scout Master and many, many more.
He has regularly written and been printed in multiple publications across the United States regarding a wide variety of subjects involving his engineering career, stamp collecting, western pioneer lifestyle, local history, and eclectic stories and curious facts.
Ivan was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife Viola, their oldest child, Ann and one greatgrandchild, Jaxon. He is survived by three children: John and his wife Ranetta Newby Pfalser of Caney, daughters Jane Herrington, Caney, and Jean and her husband Jim Baucom, Lenexa, Kansas seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
Graveside Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, under the direction of Potts Chapel in Caney. Visitation services will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29 and from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, with family present to greet friends between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Potts Chapel in Caney.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to honor Ivans passion for history, books and his many wellloved pets by requesting memorial donations to the Caney Historical Society, CaneyKan Library Fund or Caney Safari Zoological Park.
Arrangements are under the care of Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas.
