Don Armitage

September 24, 1943 — July 11, 2015

Don Armitage, 71, of rural Wayside, died peacefully at the Caney Guest Home Estate and was raised up on high Saturday, July 11, 2015.

Don Allen Armitage was born September 24, 1943 at Carnegie, Oklahoma, the second of three children born to Worley Armitage and Wilda Pauline (Ervin) Armitage. He was raised and attended schools in Caney, Kansas, graduating high school in Caney in 1962. He attended Spartan school of Aeronautics in Oklahoma City.

In 1963 he married Norma Kay Williams of Caney. They later divorced. To this union was born Jeffery Don Armitage and Jerry Dwayne Armitage. They raised their children in the Caney area.

He was employed by the Otasco Store and by Wheatley Valve, both in Caney, and finally self employed in the independent oilfield industry and as a producer and welder. He was also a cattle rancher over the years. In his early years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and rodeo.

Cattle was his hobby, along with carpentry, whether on his own home or helping others. He simply enjoyed working. Don attended the Wayside Christian Church.

Blessed by his memory are his surviving sons, Jeff of rural Independence, KS, and Jerry and wife Misty of Caney, granddaughter Joline Armitage of Independence, and Joe Armitage of Caney; great grandson Damien Couch in Independence; brother Max and wife Rosa Armitage of Caney; nieces and nephew, Rhonda Armitage, Jason Armitage, Ginger Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lloyd Armitage.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, July 17, 2015, at the Wayside Christian Church, with Jerry Davidson officiating. Family will receive guests beginning at 1:00 at the Wayside Christian Church, prior to 2:00 services. Interment will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney, Kansas, under the direction of Potts Chapel Funeral Home of Caney. The register book will be open at Potts Chapel Caney, Monday 7/13 thru Thursday 7/16, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Online condolences can be shared at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
