Havana

Christina Mae Furnas passed away peacefully at her home in rural Havana on February 4, 2021.  Chris was born on May 9, 1980 in Independence, KS to Steve and Cheryle (Davidson) Burris. Chris grew up on a farm northwest of Havana and later made her home just next door.  Chris graduated from Caney Valley High School in 1998.  During her junior and senior year she worked for a local dentist, Porter Clark out of Independence.  It was then that she discovered her love of dentistry.  In the following years, she worked for Dr. Whistler out of Bartlesville, OK and Dr. Mendez out of Pittsburg, KS.  Chris went on to graduate from Coffeyville Community College and later received her Bachelor’s Degree from Missouri Southern with an emphasis in the field of Dental Hygiene.

On September 16, 2006 Chris was united in marriage to Derek Furnas.  He was the love of her life and they made their home on the farm in rural Havana.  They were blessed with two children; a son, Dylan DeWayne, and a daughter, Callie Dawnele.

Chris was employed by Dr. Gary Blaich in Coffeyville, KS.  There she spent 15 ½ years making peoples’ smiles beautiful.  She loved her job and her co-workers, who later grew to be family.

“Aunt Beana” as the kids called her, was an avid supporter of all their activities.  She was their biggest cheerleader.  This later continued with her own children.  She was so proud of all of their accomplishments.

Chris was a member of the Wayside Christian Church.

Chris was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Don and Wilma Davidson and Jack and Shirley Burris; Brother In-law, Jerod Kyler; Cousin Matt McDaniel; Uncles Luther, Ralph and David Burris; Great Uncle Gary Shearhart.

Chris leaves behind her greatest loves. Her husband, Derek, and her two children, Dylan and Callie of the home.  Other survivors include her parents, Steve and Cheryle Burris of Havana; Sister Emily Anderson (Tim Anderson) of Niotaze; Sister Jackie Kyler of Havana; Nephews and nieces Wyatt, Morgan, and Cassidy Anderson and Stephen Kyler; many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins; Father in-law Dennis Furnas and many friends.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, KS. Pastor Jerry Davidson of the Wayside Christian Church will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Havana Cemetery. Due to the extreme weather, casual attire is expected.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 10, at the Potts Chapel in Caney, KS from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the children’s educational fund set up by Chris’s Aunt Carol and Uncles’ Larry, Jerry, and John. Memorials can be left at Potts Chapel or mailed to Edward Jones 100 N Ridgeway Caney, KS 67333 (Checks must be made out to Edward Jones).
