I served in the Navy.

Marvin R Long, 85, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away on April 24th at his home in Cherryvale.
Marvin Russel Long was born May 7, 1932, in a rural farm house west of Cherryvale. Marvin was the son of Ray and Lola (Owens) Long. He grew up in Cherryvale and attended Cherryvale schools from which he graduated in 1950. He then joined the Navy where he proudly served for four years. After the Navy, Marvin attended Independence Junior College where he received an AA in Business Accounting.
While in the Navy, Marvin was united in marriage to Joyce Blake of rural Cherryvale. The couple have celebrated 65 happy years of marriage. Together they had two children, daughter M. Dianne and son John.
Marvin was very active in the community. In masonry he was an active member of Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg, KS. where he served as Chaplain for several years. He also helped the Shrine kids by driving them to and from hospital visits and bringing smiles to their faces as a clown and PamPaw the Magician. He was an active member of the Independence Shrine Club, Scottish Rite and the Hazeldale Baptist Church. Marvin recently received his 60 year membership pin to the Elks Lodge.
Marvin enjoyed many hobbies which included showing horses, working the oil wells, square dancing, camping, magic, travel and spending time with family. Together, Marvin and Joyce have visited all fifty states. The last long trip that they made together was last year. They traveled with their granddaughter Katy and her husband Crispy to California. While there Marvin was happy to sponsor Crispy into the Invisible Lodge, a lodge for Master Masons that are Magicians. The ceremony was held at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
Survivors include his wife Joyce, of the home, daughter-in-law, Viola Long of Cherryvale, four grandchildren: Jason Niemier and wife Melissa of Cherryvale, Amanda Hughes and husband Zack of Joplin, Katy Long-Knight and husband Crispy of Tulsa, and Jonathan Long of Cherryvale, two great-grandchildren Cooper and Carson Niemier both of Cherryvale.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Lola Long, sister Margaret Confer, brothers: Chester, Albert, Kenneth, and Raleigh Long, children Dianne and John, grandson Rusty Howard, and two great-grandchildren Harli and Hayze Howard.
Visitation will be held at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Thursday, April 26th, 1:00-8:00pm, with family receiving guests 6:00-8:00pm. Services will be held on Friday, April 27th at 2:00pm at the Hazeldale Baptist Church. Memorials have been suggested to the Mirza shrine Temple Transportation Fund.
