I served in the Army.

Hershel Joe Shepard, died at age 85. He was born in Morehead, Kansas on July 9, 1931, son of Newton Harrison Shepard and Emma Alice Adams Shepard. He graduated from Cherryvale High School in May of 1949.
Graveside services will be 9:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has requested no flowers. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and may be left with the chapel.
On December 21, 1953, Joe married Lois Jean Graham of Independence, Kansas. Together they had 8 children; 2 sons Steve Shepard, Cherryvale, KS and Keith Shepard, Independence, KS, 3 daughters; Pamela Scott, Cheryl Burdett, Independence, KS and Doris Doaley, Georgia.
Joe worked for K.D.O.T in Independence, Kansas. He retired after 38 years on March 17, 1990. He also served in the Army Reserve in Parsons, Kansas and later joined the National Guard serving a total of 38 years.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 children; a daughter Neva Jean Shepard, 2 son’s; Hershel Joe Jr. and Wesley James Shepard, his wife Jean Shepard, 5 brother’s; Harrison (Pete) Shepard, Leonard Shepard, Neal Shepard, Robert Shepard, Archie Shepard, and one sister Leona Pringle. Survivors include his children, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

    Uncle Joe will be greatly missed. I always enjoyed sitting on the porch with him shooting the crap. It won't be the same driving by and not seeing him.
