My Friend Rusty, or should I say "Doodle"!!! The life we had together... Where do I start? There are so so many memories and stories to tell and such… Let me take a few of those and talk a bit and I’ll try not to elaborate too much and keep it concise…
You playing for Sedan Little League, myself Elk City both of us being catchers and you're team beating us that year in the play offs taking first place and us second, I can Remember you jumping up and down with the First Place Trophy!!!
There we were out in the country at the old Trailer House hungry as heck no food in the house, no folks around, and it’s like okay let’s get your Dad’s 30.06 and kill a chicken and fry it up… That we did, blew the heck out of that chicken, plucked the dang thing and such, dug a hole to hide the evidence, then while frying it up your Mom comes home asking “Where did you get the Chicken?”
We needed to make some money so figured it was time to do a night hunt and run some coons… Rusty’s Dad had an ‘ole cur dog that was not so good with coons but better at running possums… We asked to use the dog and out we went… Treed three that night in persimmon trees and then somehow the cur tangled with a copperhead, we figured anyways, and got bit on the cheek and swelled up like nothing!!! It was bitter cold that night and did not want to take the cur home to Rusty’s house thinking now we was in trouble so took him to my house and put him in my Dad’s shed where it was heated and went to bed… Early next morning went out to get the cur and discovered he had tore the hell out of the inside of the shed, managed to get a window open, tore the screen and out he went… we found him wondering around the house… Yes, the dog survived, and we got in trouble so to speak but made $7.50…
Fishing without a Pole
Light the fuss, look at each other, laugh, and throw the sticks in the creek… We never had so much mud and water on us and the catch was good that day…
Folks, I could go on for days as there are many many many more stories to tell, not only of Rusty and myself but him and his family and the many of his friends that dearly loved him and will surely miss him. I would just like to say that Rusty “Doodle” was, is an inspiration in my life and I will always remember and talk about him. My Condolences to Family, Bless His Soul, and God Speed Doodle!!!
